A critical eye on images

Target group: Swedish ‘’gymnasium’’ (advanced secondary school), or possibly third stage primare education (years 7 - 9).

We want students to broaden their view of what “source criticism” means, by critically examining photographic images.

1. Students are given images like these, to reflect upon in pairs.
2. Introduction to reverse image search engines (e.g. Tineye) and image meta data extractors (“Exif extraction tools”).
3. Teacher introduces the reference system of Wikipedia.
4. Students are asked to study the sources of a random WP article (references, images etc), and later share their findings to the rest of the class.
